ABSTRACT
It presents the Christian conscience as the basis of the church's performance in the social area. It brings the meaning of “doing good to all” as the external expression of acts of kindness, such as doing everything that, ethically, is good, correct, noble and honorable. It ilustrates the church's social responsibility through biblical teaching of the Old and New Testaments. It reports this responsibility materialized in Church practices over the centuries, it describes its loss at the beginning of the 20th century and it presents its foundation in Christian doctrine. It discusses the relationship between evangelistic responsibility and social responsibility as a result of the Christian conscience of the Church. It brings the implications of a Christian conscience for the 21st century church that lives in a pandemic situation and points to the need for education for the social conscience.
