ABSTRACT
Was there, for biblical counselors, an unconscious mind? In what sense do those who work with counseling in the context of the church agree and disagree with the secular perspective on the unconscious? Can we speak of painful memories from the past, which remain at the level of the unconscious affecting the life of the counselor in the present? Jay Adams and several biblical counselors of the first generation gave little value to the need to verify the person's history, in the battle they faced against the exaggerations of Psychoanalysis, they generalized, rejecting any attempt to analyze painful situations of the past, considering it as a reprehensible attitude. Given the above, the objectives of this research are: 1. to make a brief presentation and critical analysis of the perspective of Psychoanalysis on the unconscious; 2. check the relationship of Scripture to the theme of the unconscious in current theological studies.
Keywords: Theology. Biblical counseling. Unconscious. Painful memories.
