RESUMO

Este artigo, baseado na obra de Eddie Hyatt 2000 Anos de Cristianismo
Carismático, explora a continuidade histórica e teológica da atuação do Espírito
Santo, desde a criação até os avivamentos modernos, como o movimento da Rua
Azusa e a fundação das Assembleias de Deus no Brasil. A pesquisa destaca
marcos fundamentais do cristianismo, incluindo o Pentecostes, os primeiros
séculos e os avivamentos dos séculos XVIII e XIX, evidenciando o papel do
Espírito na construção da identidade pentecostal. Dialogando com autores como
Gedeon Alencar e Fábio de Sousa Neto, o estudo refuta o cessacionismo,
reafirmando a atuação contínua do Espírito na Igreja e sua contribuição para a
missão global e o testemunho cristão. Além de consolidar a tradição histórica das
Assembleias de Deus, o artigo destaca o impacto transformador do
pentecostalismo no cenário mundial.

ABSTRACT
This article, based on Eddie Hyatt’s work 2000 Years of Charismatic Christianity,
explores the historical and theological continuity of the Holy Spirit’s work, from
creation to modern revivals, such as the Azusa Street movement and the founding
of the Assemblies of God in Brazil. The research highlights fundamental
milestones in Christianity, including Pentecost, the first centuries, and the revivals
of the 18th and 19th centuries, highlighting the role of the Spirit in the construction
of Pentecostal identity. In dialogue with authors such as Gedeon Alencar and Fábio
de Sousa Neto, the study refutes cessationism, reaffirming the continuous work of
the Spirit in the Church and its contribution to global mission and Christian witness.
In addition to consolidating the historical tradition of the Assemblies of God, the
article highlights the transformative impact of Pentecostalism on the world stage.
